In vitro fertilisation treatment

ICSI is one of high-tech fertility treatment that is most prevalent among couples experiencing infertile problems throughout the world. Treatment is continuously improved and more and more babies are born using this technique.

Who need treatment?
ICSI can be offered to women or partners with certain health conditions as below.

     -    Endometriosis
     -    Low sperm counts or poor sperm quality
     -    Problems with the uterus or fallopian tubes
     -    Problems with ovulation
     -    An unexplained fertility problem

How ICSI works?
The cycle begins with Hormone injections which are given to stimulate multiple egg production. Once the eggs are ready; they are aspirated or retrieved by using a needle that goes through the vaginal wall and into each follicle, performed using sedative for 30 minutes. Then the fertilization is done in the lab where the embryologist picks up a single sperm and injects it directly into the cytoplasm of the egg. After the embryos grow, they are transferred to the woman’s uterus using a catheter and the hormone (HCG) test is performed to check whether the mother is pregnant or not.

How long will ICSI  take?
Usually it takes approximately 4 weeks to complete the cycle.

What is the success rate of ISCI?
The success rate varies depending on each couple problems and their ages. The younger the women are, the higher the success rates are. The percentage of pregnancy resulting from ICSI is about:

         -    41 percent for women younger than 35
         -    31 percent for women age 35 to 37
         -    22 percent for women age 38 to 40
         -    12 percent for women age 41 to 42

ICSI is mainly a treatment for infertility but there are still other available options that may be considered less invasive. Therefore, before attempting ICSI, each couple should first consult with fertility specialist to evaluate the problem and the exact cause of infertility for the most suitable treatment plan.
