Orthognathic Surgery (Corrective Jaw Surgery)
Orthognathic surgery, or known as Corrective Jaw Surgery is the surgery to reposition the bones of the jaws which is usually performed in conjunction with orthodontics, the alignment of the teeth. The surgery involves the modification of the jaws in order to change their alignment and positions that can dramatically improve oral function and also enhance facial appearance.
The conditions that need for Orthognathic Surgery
Orthognathic surgery is often required for those with improper bite or jaws that are positioned incorrectly. For some people, jaw misalignment is caused by birth defects and injuries. For others, the upper and lower jaws grow at different rates and when the upper and lower teeth don't meet comfortably, it can limit eating, chewing, swallowing and talking ability. Surgical steps:
Stage 1 Pre-surgical orthodontic treatment:

Stage 2 Surgery:
Once the tooth alignment is satisfactory, orthodontist and oral maxillofacial surgeon will work together to make a thorough examination and analysis of your bite and facial bones to achieve the correct jaw repositioning, and more pleasing facial appearance. The operation will take between 2-5 hours, stay in hospital between 3-7 days and return to their homes for recovery.
Stage 3 Post-surgical orthodontic treatments:
After the surgery and the jaw have healed, orthodontist will begin to “fine-tune” your bite for the best possible relationship, which takes about 6 month. After your braces are removed, you will wear retainer and follow-up with orthodontist strictly, so your bite remains stable.
