Interesting Case Conference on Plasmapheresis

This month's interesting case was geared towards understanding "Plasmapheresis" as a new trend in treatment for neuroimmunological diseases specifically among Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) patients. The conference started with a video presentation showing Plasmapheresis in Phyathai 2 hospital and followed with a brief welcome statement by the Nursing Division's Nurse Manager , Ms. Lawanakorn Sema. A general overview of the conference was given by both Nurse Case Managers, Ms. Mesitar Rusmitut and Ms. Sirirat Chitpakdee.

Guest speaker , Dr. Kittipong Pholsuwanchai - Specializing in Nephrology, Internal Medicine, General Medicine of Phyathai 2 Hospital shared his expert knowledge on plasmapheresis and its therapeutic categories according to ASFA ( American Society for Apheresis ). The comparison between therapeutic plasma exchange and double filtration plasmapheresis was discussed together with its advantages, disadvantages, and its common complications.

The Nursing team presented a Guillain-Barre Syndrome case with plasmapheresis as one of its major treatment. Diagnostic procedures, pathophysiology of the disease and its other medical and nursing management ( Nursing care pre, intra, post treatment, and rehabilitation) through the identified patient needs were all discussed accordingly. An interactive discussion and feedback between the audience and team concluded the conference.
