On 27 November 2015, Phyathai Cardiac Symposium : Endovascular Aortic Repair” was held at Meeting Room on the 9th floor, Car Park Building in Phyathai 2 Hospital. The seminar focuses on medical innovation and technology in “Endovascular Aortic Repair” which would assist in planning the effective treatment for patients with heart diseases.
We were honored to have Dr. Frank Craido who is an expert Vascular Surgeon and Endovascular Specialist at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He gave an interesting presentation on Chimney Stent Graft Technique in Endovascular Repair of The Aorta including Tips and Tricks when using Chimney Technique. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Luengthaweboon, director of Vascular and Heart Surgery Center of Phyathai 2 Hospital also gave a talk on Chimney Innominate for Zone 0 Landing for TEVAR.
Chimney technique has been developed for some time; the technique is related to placing parallel stents to the main stent graft to preserve blood flow to aortic branches. Chimney grafts has reported a lower mortality rate with positive short term results. However, this technique still requires further research to evaluate the effectiveness especially in the long term outcome.
