Autologous Conditioned Plasma for an Orthopedic Treatment

What is Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP)?

ACP is referred to plasma that is rich in platelets. Around 10-15 cc of the blood is drawn from the patients and then ACP is extracted using the process of centrifugation to separate out the different elements of the blood.  Red blood cells are discarded, and we are left with concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) which enhances the body's natural ability to heal itself. It has a greater concentration, 10-25 times compared to normal blood. However, this depends on health condition, age and body strength.

It minimizes the risk of contamination and infection due to the use of patients' own plasma. There is no need using Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and steroid which causes negative effect to stomach; colon and kidney. This method of treatment; therefore, can be repeated several times.
Some bruising can be seen on the injected area, apply the cold compress to the bruise 48 hours or 1-2 days to help relieve it. The treatment is not appropriate for patients with blood disorders, thrombocytopenia, immune system disorders, gout, and septicemia. In addition, the procedures should be carried out under aseptic technique to prevent contamination and for safety purpose.
Patients who are suitable for ACP treatment
1. Athletes or patients with tendon and ligament injuries, torn muscles
2. Patients with spinal injuries, inflammatory or degenerative joint disease causing neck pain, low back pain and thoracic spine pain.
3. People with chronic pain disorders particularly in neck, shoulder, low back area.
4. Chronic muscle pain that standard treatment does not allow complete recovery, with an intermittent pain.
This kind of treatment does not promote healing quickly or instantly like steroid injection but it is beneficial since the physician does not need to use anti-inflammatory drugs. It is the alternative treatment that can be used along with the standard treatment and must be performed under the supervision of professional doctors.
