Yellow Fever
Yellow fever is an infectious disease that is caused by Flavivirus. It is spread between human by the bite of yellow fever-infected mosquitoes, and the outbreak usually occurs in tropical and sub-tropical regions of Africa and South America. The word “yellow” comes from jaundice which is often found in the patients with yellow fever. Yellow fever can be prevented with a vaccine.
Symptoms of Yellow Fever
After the infection, the initial symptoms are fever, headache, abdominal pain and vomiting. The symptoms will improve for a while; then more serious symptoms occur which are bleeding from nose, mouth, eyes and liver failure which 5 percent of people with yellow fever enters this phrase.
Who should receive yellow fever vaccine?
People age 9 months or older are recommended to have yellow fever vaccine. The Ministry of Health in Thailand has announced that yellow fever vaccine is a dangerous infectious disease and has issued regulations for people who will travel to or return from the countries with risk of fever transmission, 45 countries as follows:

People who never receive yellow fever vaccine before or received yellow vaccine for more than 10 years are required to have yellow fever vaccinated and must provide yellow fever vaccination certificate not less than 10 days prior to travelling to or returning from the countries which have been declared Yellow Fever Infected Areas
Who should not get yellow fever vaccine?
1. People who are allergic to vaccine component
2. Baby younger than 6 months years old
3. People who have weakened immune system such as HIV/AIDS, cancer patients, patients with thymus disorder, patient who receive an organ transplant, or drug treatment that affect immune system.
Side Effects for Yellow Fever Vaccine
Severe allergic reactions include rash, swollen face, swollen neck, difficulty breathing or fast heart rate. If these symptoms appear after the vaccination, visit the physician immediately. Only a few people experience severe allergy to the shot.
Common mild allergic reactions are aches, soreness, redness or swelling where the shot is given which will be improved within 1-2 days. Besides, after having the vaccine, some also have low-grade fever, headache and muscle pain. IConsult the doctor, if there are other symptoms.
