ICSI is generally performed as part of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure. The procedure is done under a microscope using multiple micromanipulation devices. . It is performed when the insufficient sperms are available such as low sperm count and poor morphology or poor motility. ICSI involves injecting a single sperm directly into an egg in order to fertilize it. The fertilized egg is then transferred to the woman’s uterus.

Steps to success

You should come to Bangkok 2-3 days before menstruation. Other investigations and IVF hormonal level such as: FSH, Estradiol on the 2nd day of menstruation to determine the dose of the hormone to stimulate the egg.

Step 1 – Preparation

Both partners go through a variety of tests. These vary from one medical center to the next, but often include hormone tests for the woman, AIDS and other tests for both partners and a sperm analysis for the man. In a normal ovulation cycle, one egg usually matures per month. In an IVF cycle, the goal is to have as many mature eggs as possible, as this will increase the treatment achievement, so injectable medications are used for approximately from 2nd day of period until 13th-14th days to stimulate the ovaries and produce eggs. Stimulation medications are derivatives from the hormones FSH and LH, which are the natural hormones involved in the natural ovulation process.

Step 2 - Ova or Egg Aspiration / Retrieval

Once the eggs are ready; they are aspirated or retrieved by using a needle that goes through the vaginal wall and into each follicle. This procedure is generally performed using sedative for 30 minutes. It usually takes less than an hour from the beginning of the preparation until the woman wakes up.

Step 3 – Fertilization (Day 1, Day 3)

The lab evaluates the ova and the sperm before deciding how to proceed.  The embryologist selects a single healthy sperm and injects it directly into the center of each egg. You may have information about the number of embryos in the following morning around 11 am. We will keep you updated of the report of embryos developing on day 3 and day 5 of blastocyst stage with the pictures.

Step 4 - Embryo Transfer (Day 5)

Once the embryos are formed and have started to grow, it's time to put them where they belong - in the uterus. One or more embryos are transferred to the woman's uterus using a catheter and, it is relatively painless.

Step 5 – Beta HCG (after embryo transfer 10 days)

It's time for pregnancy test, , blood is drawn and the HCG level is measured. The whole process may need about 28-29 days. As a result, the success rate for your couple is around 50%. Most importantly, our hospital does provide the intelligent technique of Microarray. This procedure will help researchers to learn more about many different diseases, including heart disease, mental illness and infectious diseases for the embryo. This helpful procedure is around 80% success.
