It often referred to as a T&A, is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils and adenoids. These are masses of tissue located in the throat and nasal passages that are part of the immune system.

Reasons for a T&A:

1. Frequent infections: If a child experiences recurrent tonsillitis (infection of the tonsils) or strep throat despite antibiotic treatment, a T&A may be recommended.

2. Breathing problems: Enlarged tonsils and adenoids can obstruct the airway, leading to snoring, sleep apnea (pauses in breathing during sleep), and difficulty breathing.

3. Ear infections: Enlarged adenoids can block the Eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the back of the throat, leading to recurrent ear infections.

4. Swallowing difficulties: In some cases, enlarged tonsils can make it difficult to swallow.
