Doctor recommendation on Migraine

Migraine and chronic headaches are common and become more severe when triggered by various factors like bright lights and loud noises. Migraine occurs in about 15% of the world’s population, and usually who are working people aged 20-25 years, and it is twice as likely to occur in women as in men, especially during menstruation.

What causes migraine?
Migraine headache is a type of brain condition whose cause remains unclear. Perhaps it is caused by abnormal brain stem or brain cell function or chemical imbalance in the brain that causes blood vessels to become hypersensitive to stimuli, leading to electrical current abnormalities in the brain and inflammation of the nerves and cerebral arteries. Without appropriate and timely treatment, it can cause changes in the central nervous system, leading to greater sensitivity to stimuli and more difficult treatment.

Avoid triggers to reduce risk of migraine.
Even though the cause of migraine remains unclear, we believe there are many factors contributing to migraine. Common factors include sunlight, bright lights, hot weather, dust and smoke particles, lack of sleep, alcohol consumption, chocolate and birth control, including stress, which is usually a major factor contributing to migraine in many patients.

What kind of headaches are classified as migraine?
Clear symptoms of migraine include pain on the temple on only one side or both sides or pain alternating from side to side and possibly along with other symptoms such as pain in the eye sockets and throbbing that corresponds to the pulse. Some cases even experience nausea and vomiting.

Migraine usually occurs continuously for 4-72 hours or more, and pain is very severe when there are head movements, coughing and sneezing, but symptoms will improve after resting in a dark and quiet place. In some people, there might be warning signs of migraine such as seeing lights or feeling numbness in the arms or legs, along with nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to lights and sounds.

Can migraine be cured?
Migraine is not curable. You can only treat it and try to reduce risk of developing additional migraine headaches. One important priority in the treatment of migraine is to deal with and prevent pain symptoms to allow patients to experience less suffering from their headache and to be able to return to normal living.

Migraine treatment is considered based on the severity of the pain. Primarily, pain medication is prescribed to relieve pain symptoms. However, if you take pain medications too often, pain symptoms can be come more severe and frequent. Therefore, it is necessary to also prescribe medications to prevent migraine. As for other treatment methods of migraine, they include injecting a drug to suppress the function of local nerves, acupressure massage, and botox injection in patients who are unresponsive to prevention medications or who fail to prevent the migraine by other methods.

Do this if you don’t want to have frequent migraine!
The best method to reduce migraine pain symptoms is prevention to keep symptoms from occurring. Therefore, in addition to using medical approaches to relieve migraine symptoms, it is important to avoid triggers, for example, by sleeping sufficiently by at least 8 hours each night, eating on time and resting in a dark and quiet place while going for massages whenever headache symptoms occur, in addition to regularly exercising and observing other triggers for migraine, etc.
