Get a proper checkup when you have headache and nausea at the same time. Tumor could be their cause.

Ordinarily, the human brain has normal blood pressure. However, the presence of a tumor causes blood pressure inside the brain to rise. Initially, the pressure in the brain gradually increases, so at first there might only be a headache, which is difficult to differentiate from ordinary headache. However, if the tumor continues to grow in size, other symptoms will eventually follow.

What are the warning signs of brain tumor?
1.Headaches that are often accompanied by sudden nausea due to increased size of the  tumor, and there might also be brain edema.
2.Vertigo, staggering and loss of balance.
3.Weakness in one of the limbs.
4.Slurred speech and facial palsy.

Do you know that stress does not increase the risk of brain tumor?
Stress, hard work and little rest neither contribute to nor increase risk of brain tumor. However, they might contribute to ordinary headaches that are unaccompanied by other abnormal symptoms like weaknesses in the limbs and facial palsy.

Is it true that surgery is the only way to treat brain tumors?
For the most part, surgery is required after a brain tumor is discovered. However, the type or method of surgery depends on the cause for surgery. This is because brain tests by use of CT scans or MRI allow medical professionals to see images of masses. However, there are also other diseases that can appear to be similar to brain tumors, such as cysts, abscess caused by bacterial infection or abscess caused by tuberculosis. Therefore, performing a biopsy to test the relevant tissues allow doctors to more accurately diagnosis the condition, and the treatment will differ according to the diagnosis.

There are 2 objectives of surgery as follows:
1. Extraction of tissues for diagnosis and testing by partially removing only some of the tissues for testing.
2. Treatment of brain tumor by completely removing the tumor.

Accordingly, it depends on the treating physicians to consider the appropriate treatment with considerations primarily based on the size and location of the tumor and whether or not there will be dangers to the patient after surgery, etc.

Does brain tumor surgery require an opening of the skull?
The skull has to be opened in order to treat brain tumors. However, in some cases where the doctor only wants some tissues for additional testing, the skull might only be punctured in order to insert a needle to extract the tissues. In addition, when performing surgery to treat brain tumor, modern medical technologies make it unnecessary to create big wounds in the skull, so it is not as scary or dangerous as many patients think.

Navigators help make brain surgeries safer.
In addition to brain tumor surgeries, today high-magnification microscopes are used to help provide surgeons with clear images that make surgeries safer, and there are even lighting functions to provide similar illumination to flashlights, thus allowing surgeons to see tumors located in deep positions, and navigator systems are being used to provide guidance similar to vehicle GPS systems to ensure arrival at the correct destination.

“Brain tumors are like the destination. We Have to plan our trip from where we would like to begin, which means the correct location for opening the skull, to reaching the destination without getting loss to make surgery much more precise. If we don’t have a navigator system, however, even a single centimeter away from the mark can cause damage to the brain. Moreover, the navigator system makes it unnecessary for the surgeon to create big open wounds on the skull when treating tumors.”

Greater Peace of Mind… From Innovations to Reduce Complications After Surgery
In cases where the tumor is located at an important position, it might be difficult to avoid side effects. For example, if the tumor is located at the part of the brain responsible for regulating speech or the limbs, damage to this part of the brain can lead to paresis or paralysis. As such, we must control and minimize these side effects as much as possible, and use of high-quality instruments can help lower these risks.

Are there risks that brain tumor will recur after surgery?
The risk of recurrence in brain surgery patients is divided into 2 groups as follows:

  • For people with malignant tumors or cancer, tumors cannot be treated by surgery alone. Other treatment methods such as radiotherapy are also required.
  • For ordinary tumors, the risk of recurrence depends on whether or not the entire tumor was removed during surgery. If the entire tumor is removed, the risk of recurrence is very low at less than 10%.
