Use psychotherapy to treat headaches

Psychotherapy and mind reprogramming for treating stress-induced headaches in patients are divided into 2 different cases as follows:

1. Treatment on the conscious level through counseling or psychotherapy for stress-induced headache patients with clearly identifiable causes such as heavy work load, debts, personal problems, family problems, and social problems.
2. Subconscious treatment. For patients with buried issues that contributed to ongoing stress, hypnotherapy might be necessary. It is a form of mental detox. Hypnotherapy is part of a science that is known today as neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). It clears the subconscious mind of people suffering from stress, chronic insomnia, anxiety, unreasonable irritability, relationship problems and constant negative thinking about the self.

Treatment involves use of language and music therapy. Music with suitable rhythms is used to bring patients into the theta brainwave mode, since the theta brainwave is a state in which human are half awake and half asleep. It is a suitable mode for hypnotherapy to alter subconscious mind in favor of beneficial things for living in a way that positively affects life. If stress occurs on the subconscious level without treatment at the cause, the problem can lead to more than stress. It can contribute to chronic life impacts, pressure, health problems and relationship problems. Mind reprogramming, in addition to treating the cause of stress that induces headaches, can also facilitate positive living, and this will remain effective for a period of time, i.e., to improve work performance.

Music Therapy… Treats Stress
Another way to treat headache patients on both the conscious and subconscious levels is music therapy. It can be included as part of the treatment by choosing it appropriately to each patient. Music therapy is the use of music or musical components to alter, improve and treat the mind and emotions according to a principle and criteria for each mode of the mental state. It is a non-medicative way to treat stress-induced headache patients, because music is like medicine that is received through listening.

Today, we use music therapy to treat patients because it is a form of therapy that can be administered at any time without requiring musical instruments. It is easy to perform, and it takes only a selection of sound waves that promote brainwave balance. Accordingly, the human brainwaves are divided into 4 groups as follows:

  • Beta brainwaves are brainwaves for when the person is conscious but is stressed or irritated.
  • Alpha brainwaves  are brainwaves for when the person is conscious, relaxed and comfortable such as when meditating.
  • Theta brainwaves  are brainwaves for when the person is half-awake, for example, when the person is not fully asleep but is dreaming or when a person falls asleep while driving, etc.
  • Delta brainwaves  are the slowest brainwaves and occur while sleeping. This is when the body is fully resting in deep sleep without dreaming.

Most of the music used aims to promote relaxation and restful sleep. The most important component of music therapy, however, is that the musical guideline must be chosen by a medical professional in order to ensure that the sound waves of the music match with the intended brainwaves for therapy and the right time period in life.
