What is an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)?

The aorta is the largest artery in your body, carrying blood from your heart to the rest of your body. An AAA occurs when a section of the aorta in your abdomen weakens and bulges outwards. This bulge can rupture, leading to life-threatening internal bleeding.

How Does EVAR Work?

EVAR is a less invasive alternative to traditional open surgery for AAA repair.

1. Small Incisions: The surgeon makes small incisions in your groin.

2. Catheter Insertion: A thin tube called a catheter is inserted into an artery in your groin and guided up to the aneurysm in your aorta.

3. Stent Graft Placement: A fabric-covered metal tube called a stent graft is delivered through the catheter and placed inside the aneurysm. The stent graft acts as a new lining for the aorta, redirecting blood flow away from the weakened area and preventing rupture.
